The Schulte Group comes with over 130 years of experience in its field. Now based in Hamburg, Germany, the family-owned business is managed by the 5th generation of the family. BSM came into existence in 2008 through the coming together of four ship management companies that were already owned by the group:

- Dorchester Atlantic Marine (1978)
- Eurasia Group (1981) and
- VorsetzenBereederungs- und Schiffahrtskontor (1999)
