Port Khalid Sharjah

Among the most prominent ports in the world, Port Khalid is located in the Arabian Gulf, right in the heart of Sharjah – one of the emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Its convenient location allows for easy connectivity to every corner of the globe, making it among the most chosen ports for shipping liners.

Port khalid sharjah

Port Khalid started operations in 1976. It is among the three ports of the emirate, the other two being the Port of Hamriyah and Khor Fakkan. The ports are owned by the Department of Seaports and Customs that also operates.

One of the premier seaports of the entire Gulf area, Port Khalid was among the first ones here to provide facilities like:

  • Roll-on/roll-off cargo terminals,
  • Container terminals, and
  • Also free trade terminal services.

The port enjoys fantastic road connectivity to the major industrial hubs in the emirates and also the international airport. This makes using the port an even more attractive proposition for both exporters & importers.

Port Khalid Facilities

3 berths in the port are dedicated to handling containerized cargo. There are 20 more berths. These berths handle a wide variety of cargo. These include:

  • Refrigerated shipments,
  • Dry bulk,
  • Liquid bulk, and
  • Also hazmat cargo.

Port Khalid also handles project cargo and roll-on/roll-off shipments.

Among other facilities, Port Khalid offers 3 mobile-harbor cranes & 2 ship-to-ship quay cranes. This makes the movement of cargo in the terminal a much easier & time-saving process. There are also 7 rubber-tired gantry cranes in the port.

The allocation of cargo handling among the berths is somewhat like below:

  • Berths 1-3: containers, general, bulk
  • Berths 4-7: bulk, roll-on/roll-off, project
  • Berths 9-13: liquid bulk (like petroleum), also ship repairing

The rest of the berths handle a mix of all types of cargo. This flexibility of operations ensures that loading, unloading, and transshipment of cargo happens at a fast pace & seamlessly.

Port Khalid also provides substantial warehousing facilities. The cold storage facilities are more than 8,000tons’ capacity. The total warehouse space is in excess of 60,000 sqmt.

Additional Facilities

  • Road connectivity to the Inland Container Depots (ICDs) across the 7 emirates
  • Strategic location, with a large industrial and commercial base
  • All port service personnel are available in-house. So the shipping lines or shippers/consignees don’t need to arrange for anything
  • Assistance to the Free Trade Zone companies located nearby, in the areas of Hamriyah Free Trade Zone & Sharjah Airport Free Trade Zone

Thus, with an array of facilities, friendly and competent members of staff, and attractive pricing options, Port Khalid occupies a position of pride in its category. And it is set to do so for a fairly long time into the future.
